History
Coming from a very construction oriented family, our founder Richard Gilman began building things at age 4. His father, James Gilman, was an architect and all 6 of his older brothers were carpenters. After high school, he started as a laborer, and at age 20 he was hired as a carpenter. By age 21, he was a foreman for Heritage Builders East. He worked there for 10 years doing Timberpeg Custom Homes, custom building all the cabinets, staircases, and balustrade. After that, he worked for Broughman Builders for 6 years, building more conventional custom homes. In 1998, Gilman Carpentry was born in Hancock, Maine.
When Gilman Carpentry first began, we specialized in residential and commercial projects. Building homes, cabinetry, custom staircases, furniture, we could do whatever the customer desired. We also subcontracted for large general contractors on commercial projects. After moving the business to New Hampshire, we continued working on new home construction during the housing boom. As the housing bubble’s burst became eminent, we began focusing more on commercial projects. We developed a system for installing doors, windows, and cabinets, in a timely fashion with unmatched quality. Over the years, we have perfected this system, and now we can handle any project.
We currently serve many Central New Hampshire general contractors including Harvey Construction Corp., North Branch Construction, Eckman Construction, Conneston Construction, Inc, Cobb Hill Construction, to name a few. We provide quality interior finish work, door and hardware installation, and millwork installation. We also install for some area millwork shops, including A.P. Dailey and Aubin Woodworking. We have multiple crews and are capable of providing timely installations in any size project.
